He had already broken the British transfer record when he joined Leeds from West Ham for 18m. Rio's reputation was enhanced during a magnificient display in World Cup 2002 where he was singled out by pundits as the most impressive defender on show. Unfortunately in 2003, he failed to attend a drugs test and was subsequently banned for 8 months missing Euro 2004 in the process.
Now re-established in the England side, and having just signed a new whopping contract with Man Utd, his future looks bright.
